DESCRIPTION OFFICIAL MASTERS DEGREE IN CLINICAL MEDICINE RESEARCH

The general objectives of the Official Masters Degree in Clinical Medicine Research are:
– Enable students to design, analyze, execute and interpret results in health/disease, epidemiological, and clinical research.
– Develop knowledge and skills for the process of researching in the area of the health/disease.
– To promote the application of methodologies of research that can be carried out in the professional life of the students.

PLANNING

The Master of Research in Clinical Medicine has a duration of 60 ECTS, equivalent to one academic year. It has an approach structured in 2 semesters:

The first semester includes four compulsory subjects and is 30 ECTS credits

The second semester includes:
a. The student must choose 3 or 4 elective subjects of 3 and 4.
5 ECTS credits among the offered are developed with the same teaching methodology (12 ECTS). 5 ECTS credits among the offered are developed with the same teaching methodology (12 ECTS).
b. It is complemented by the development of a Master’s Project with results (18 ECTS).

For the same learning, students work online with material offered on the website, shall participate in discussion forums for each subject, and perform work of analysis on some aspect of it.

COMPETENCES

General competences
  • Students must demonstrate a systematic competence in the area of Medicine, and mastery of the skills and methods of research associated with that field.
  • Students must demonstrate the ability to conceive, design, implement and adopt a substantial process of research.
  • The students must made a contribution through original research to expand the frontiers of knowledge developing a substantial corpus of which party deserves the publication referenced at national or international level.
  • The students must be able to carry out a critical analysis, evaluation and synthesis of new and complex ideas.
  • The students must know how to communicate with colleagues, with the whole academic community and society in general close to their areas of expertise.
Specific competences
  • The students are supposed to be able to promote, in academic and professional contexts of technological, social or cultural progress within a knowledge-based society.
  • Access to the scientific literature, databases, documentary sources and information of high level in Clinical Medicine and related areas.
  • Design and plan a project that addresses the problem research for evaluation by committees of ethics, as well as evaluation and research funding.
  • Collect, sort and classify data and research materials whether in the form of documents, records, questionnaires, results of experimental tests, etc.
  • Communicate results and disseminate the knowledge generated to health staff professionals, as well as to a non-specialised public using written, oral and graphic media.
  • KNOW THE methodology of decision making in Clinical. Clinical practice guidelines. Levels of scientific evidence.
  • KNOW THE VALUE OF complementary tests in clinical diagnosis. Indicators of validity and utility.
  • KNOW THAT MEAN THE TERMS efficacy, effectiveness and efficiency of therapeutic interventions.
  • Introduce and import data into each of the Excell and SigmaPlot SPSS programs I in similar programmes.
  • Represent the data quality of publication.
  • To perform a critical reading of works, articles or projects that use questionnaires or scales of health determining the correct use of them.
  • Know to validate a scale or a health questionnaire.
  • Discriminate between different statistics to determine the reliability, consistency and validity of a scale or health questionnaire.
  • Describe to a specialized forum how deals with the construction and validation of a questionnaire or a health scale.
  • Handle with ease and at the expert level tools of search on the most important health sciences information now available, from the commercial databases to different types of search tools available on the Internet.
  • Achieve the knowledge and skills needed to carry out the preparation and submission of applications for funding of projects of ID, as well as the dissemination of the same results.
  • Ability to communicate effectively the results of research.
  • Ability to inform, educate, supervise and maintain effective communication (including the use of technologies): with patients, families and social groups, including those with communication difficulties.
  • Ability to participate in meetings of specific advanced research.
  • The students must know how to recognize the need for the synthesis of evidence for the translation of knowledge.

ACCES AND ADMISSION

Access

To access the official teachings of this Master’s degree it will be required to be in possession of an official Spanish University Degree, or one issued by an institution of higher education of the European Higher Education area which authorize in the exporting country of the title for access to Master’s.

Likewise, can access students according to educational systems outside the European Union of Higher Education without the approval of their titles, subject to verification by the University that those credited a level of education similar to the corresponding official Spanish University Degree and that authorize the country issuing the title access to postgraduate teachings.

The access by this way does not imply, in any case, the approval of the previous title that is in it possession interested, nor its appreciation to other effects than the study the teachings of Master.

Admission
Income profile:

1) Profile of characteristic entry for this Master will be the students (degree, Bachelor’s degree, diploma or equivalent) in the field of Health Science, Medicine, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Biology, Nursing, Nutrition, Psychology, Social work, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, General degree in Health-related Sciences.

2) Profile of selective admission. Since the Master’s degree could be of interest for slabs that have not completed the health sciences-related qualifications referred above, interested students in the problems that might arise in clinical practice, may apply for admission to this Master, although it will be it will condition the analysis of your application and your resume.

Selection criteria:
For the admission of students it will be assessed and scored by multiplying the points obtained in each of the following items by their weighting, being able to obtain a maximum of 100 points.

Score:
50% Adequacy of the qualification to the areas of knowledge of the Master:
. Degree in Medicine (10 points)
. Other degrees in Health Sciences (8 points)
. Other qualifications (5 points)
20% Academic Record or Personal Academic Certificate (0-10 points)
20% Curriculum Vitae (will be especially valued knowledge of English, minimum level A2, and statistics) (0-10 points)
10. Activities of scientist-professional character that adapt to the curriculum proposed in the Master (0-10 points)

The Students Admission Commission saisit the Faculty of the Master the selection of students based, primarily, on the quality of its own merits presented, according to the criteria of admission and selection previously involved, reserving at least 70 of vacancies for graduates in medicine and the 30 remaining for the other qualifications of origin, keeping always the same criteria for the evaluation of todosas candidatosas slabs for these squares. When these quotas are not covered, the vacancies available will be added to another quota if it candidates that fullfil the requirements of access.

In this process of admission it will be handled first, a pre-registration in the Master’s degree, both in May and in September. Admission and potential selection will take place according to the previous aspects, by the Committee on Admission of Students, which will be formed by her Director of the Master’s Degree, 2 professors of the Master and a member of the PAS, using the criteria of previous valuation, whose composition and results will be published on the website of the University.

At the time of enrolment plus the student, is proceed to establish an order of preference among the alternative elective courses available, in such a way that the 60 ECTS in total of the Master’s are not exceeded.

If the total number of selected students is exceeded, shall be to include only candidates with the best overall score.
