A SEMINAR ON METHODS FOR THE PREVENTION OF CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE WAS HELD AT MIGUEL HERNÁNDEZ UNIVERSITY

Last Friday February 26, the UMH held the seminar on Methods for the prevention of cardiovascular disease. The event provided an intensive program that included:

  • the Mediterranean diet with caloric restrictions,
  • physical activity,
  • and treatment of behavior to prevent cardiovascular diseases, etc.

What was about the seminar on Methods for the prevention of cardiovascular disease?


Several researchers of the Unit of Epidemiology of Nutrition (EPINUT) will be responsible for the seminar in the class 4007 of the Severo Ochoa building in the Campus of Sant Joan d’Alacant (Spain). The event started at 12:00 pm., with free entry and limited to the capacity of the room.

 

Sandra González and Laura Torres, researchers from the group EPINUT, will carry out the seminar under the title: “Effect of an intensive intervention on life styles based on a traditional Mediterranean diet with caloric restriction, physical activity, and behavioral treatment on cardiovascular disease prevention: study PREDIMED-PLUS”. These sessions are included among the Formation of the Epidemiology Unit of Nutrition Activities.In addition, the University professor Miguel Hernández (UMH), Jesús Vioque, is who elads the Unit in its own Department of Public Health, History of Science and Gynecology at UMH.

Throughout the Conference, a study will be exposed PREDIMED-PLUS. After that, the study PREDIMED and finally a Mediterranean diet prevention research will be displayed. In this second part, which joins the EPINUT Group research, will take place an multicenter of primary prevention intervention study, random both men (55-75 years) and women (60-75 years old), with an index of BMI ≥ 27 and <40 kg/m2, focused on weight loss and improvement of cardiovascular parameters.
