Aproximadamente 100 alumnos de 5 años participaron en el proyecto Hospital de los Ositos de Peluche organizado por la Asociación de Estudiantes de Medicina (IFMSA Alicante). Los alumnos y alumnas de Medicina de la Universidad Miguel Hernández  Elche (UMH) belong to this group and have the support of the Dean of Medicine of the University.

The idea aims to help and support the children to cut their fears to the white coats and medical staff. The activity carried out, Hospital of Teddy Bears, took place on February 27 and of March 6, from 9:30 to 12:00 hours, in the Francisco Javier Balmis building of the campus of Sant Joan d’Alacant, Spain.

Students and pupils from Primary local schools CEIP Lo Romero de Sant Joan d’Alacant, Spain,  and CEIP San Gabriel of Alicante, Spain, will participate in the editions of this event. UMH students will collaborate and teach small habits of feeding healthy, hygiene, as well as to identify and communicate symptoms and signs of disease.

The building Francisco Javier Balmis UMH (Campus of Sant Joan d’Alacant, Spain) will be transformed into an “Adapted Hospital” for children. Teddies children will be new patients and the own child or girl will automatically become a companion. There will take place, therefore, workshops and activities where children learn, along with the guidance of students, to detect, heal and communicate symptoms and diseases in their plush toys. At the end of the activity the school pupils will be credited with a diploma as a “Doctors of dolls”.

This activity has its English version Teddy Bears Hospital (TBH) and it is a project that arose from the International Federation of Associations of Students of Medicine (IFMSA), carried out in several countries for years. The target audience is school pupils and it is performed by students of Medicine.
